Sunday Splash: fall vibes & fitness

Who’s ready for bed? Everyone, hands up?

I’m definitely exhausted in the best way possible—this past week was filled with lots of fun, family get-togethers, relaxation, & yummy food. BTW, we still have TONS of Nutella-stuffed Nutella cookies in the fridge. I might have gotten a little carried away & made way too many.

This year, I went for a run before our Thanksgiving get-togethers & it felt SO good. I definitely want to make it a tradition. Fresh air, fall leaves & endorphins? YES PLEASE!

I’m still not a fan of running on the treadmill (any tips here?) but running outside is hands-down one of my favorite ways to workout. I usually shoot for 1-2 runs a week, and I go to the gym on the other days.

Fall vibes & fitness have been our theme lately.

We shoot for daily workouts, & usually hit 5-7 workouts a week. I’d love to say it’s 7 days/week every week, but being real here, that doesn’t always happen. If I miss a day, I try not to dwell on it too much, & instead I focus on hitting it hard the next day.

A few things that help us reach our fitness goals?

  1. HABITS: during the week, we go to the gym as soon as we get home from work. This trigger helps SO much with consistency. During the weekend, we try to get our workout in, in the morning, before we head off to any weekend plans. This way we don’t miss it by getting home too late/coming home exhausted.
  2. BUDDY SYSTEM: we go to the gym together, whenever we can. This helps with accountability & motivation.
  3. BCAAS: BCAAs feed our muscles and protect them, so we burn fat (not muscle!) while we work out. SO important. They’re essential amino acids—meaning our bodies can’t produce them on their own so they need to come from our diet. It’s best to take them 3x per day—before your workout, after your workout, & before bed. More details here. Oh & update if you’re following JOYFETI on IG, I can swallow two BCAAs at once now. Small wins, guys! LOL. I take these vegan BCAAs, which I’m about to take again right now.

I just finished drinking my peppermint tea & I’m off to get ready for bed & pop 2 BCAA pills. Popity pop.

Sweet dreams!

Bita

Sunday Splash: mini kombuchas + getting ready for the holidays

Happy almost thanksgiving! What are your thanksgiving plans?

We’re still figuring ours out—we’ll likely go to my grandparents first and have lunch with them, & then we’ll go to Arrash’s parents, & then we’ll all get together at my parents’ house for thanksgiving dinner. LOTS OF FOOD.

We’re coordinating who’ll bring what & my niece already requested I make these Nutella stuffed Nutella cookies. YUM! So I can’t disappoint. Have you guys tried them? Let me know how you like them?

P.S. if you’d rather buy dessert, Whole Foods has this cranberry apple pie that is SOOO GOOD. I got it a few weeks ago & I definitely recommend it. It’s delicious.

Speaking of Whole Foods, remember a couple months ago I snapchatted these mini kombucha bottles I saw there? & then we talked about them when we chatted about kombucha’s benefits? Well, here they are in all their glory ; ) They’re cute, right?

I’m obsessed with these mini bottles because they’re the perfect size.

Although I have had two back-to-back once or twice. I just couldn’t help it. It’s so refreshing.

They’re 8 oz, which is exactly half the size of Health-Ade’s original 16 oz bottle.

Also, I feel like they’re less likely to have that SCOBY floating in them, which I just can’t drink—I’ve tried. You know that slimy gushy thing you find in kombucha sometimes? Health-Ade talks about it here. I usually find some SCOBY in the big bottles, but I haven’t had them in the mini bottles yet, which I’m very into. Do you drink the SCOBY? To each their own.

OH, & BIG NEWS. Arrash officially likes kombucha. We did it, LOL. I had a hunch it was going to happen ; ) Now that he’s into it, we’ll sometimes split a big bottle (16 oz) during dinner & we’ll pour them into champagne flutes for fun. I love it.

What else is new? What are you guys working on? & what do you want to see more of on the blog next year? I’m all ears : ) I’d love to hear!

Hope you’re gearing up for a fantastic & relaxing thanksgiving. Cheers!

<3,
Bita

Sunday Splash: Big Sur + Carmel

[ Arrash & I in Big Sur ]

If you’re planning a trip to Carmel (even if it’s just a day trip), you have to check out these places.

Back in June, Arrash & I went to Carmel to celebrate my birthday & we discovered an amazing restaurant and two really cool wine tasting rooms.

Oh & we also tried to hike, but all the trails were closed because of the landslide that happened earlier in the year. Looks like some of them might be opening soon though if you want to check them out!

Since the trails were closed, we just parked on the road and walked by the shore. I loved it! It’s gorgeous there—definitely a great place for a date. If you bring a beach towel & some sandwiches, you can even just lay out at the beach.

Arrash told me to bring a change of clothes so we could go from hiking to dinner—again, apparently it’s a thing now, & luckily I knew exactly what to bring.

After we left Big Sur we went to Carmel for wine tasting. YUM!!

We went to Wrath and tried one of their tasting sets (is that what it’s called? LMK).

My favorite was the 2013 Pinot Noir. Here’s their description of it:

Wrath 2013 SLH Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands:
fresh palate with bright acidity highlight notes of cherries, dried herbs & raspberries

It was SO good. I usually steer clear of red wines (mostly to keep my teeth white, but also because I love a crisp white wine). But, I couldn’t have enough of this one. It was delicious. Possibly the best red wine I’ve ever had.

Next, we went to Scheid Vineyards, already a little tipsy—whoops ; ) My favorites there were their 2016 Pinot Noir Rose Estate Grown Monterey (a really delicious dry rose) & their 2016 Albarino.

Here’s their description of the Albarino:

2016 Albarino:
Pure and vibrant with lemon-lime aromas, flavors of ripe peaches and apricots, and mouthwatering acidity

Feeling even more buzzed (at least I was), we went to dinner at Montrio Bistro in Monterey—and I kid you not, I think about this one appetizer we had there alllllll the time. Seriously, all the time.

It was their “Mixed Mushrooms” with polenta.

It was so good we ordered it twice.

I randomly get cravings for it, so I’ve had to create some easy ways to get me through them.

Usually, I’ll get some mushroom soup from Whole Foods salad bar or this canned organic cream of mushroom soup, or I’ll sauté some mushrooms with olive oil, salt + pepper, and nutritional yeast. They do the job, but it’s obviously not the same thing. So hopefully we’ll go back there soon & I can order it again ; )

I also really love that their seafood is sustainable and they only use organic local produce. Big fan of that!

Okay, so next time you’re planning a trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea, check out these places:

  • Wrath — try the 2013 SLH Pinot Noir
  • Scheid Vineyards — try their 2016 Pinot Noir Rose & 2016 Albarino
  • Montrio Bistro — order their “Mixed Mushrooms” with polenta (twice!)

LMK if you guys have some places we should check out in Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey. I’d love to check them out next time we’re there.

Okay, I’m off to finish my tea (Yogi Kava Stress Relief—Arrash says I should have this daily), & get ready for bed. Sweet dreams!

Bita

Sunday Splash: a Sunday in ( kind of )

HI GUYS!

Who’s ready for Monday?

For once ( LOL ), I’m actually ready. We didn’t have any plans today, other than hiking in the morning, so I flowed through my day pretty relaxed and got to most the things I needed to get to, to get ready for the week.

For me, some of those things include having clean clothes ( LOL reasonable right? ), stocking the fridge / getting groceries, working out & let’s get sappy for a moment… Spending time with Arrash ; ) Sappy, but true.

[ My favorite creamer—I stalked up on this yumminess at Whole Foods today. Stainless steel straw is from Bed Bath & Beyond. I love them! ]

[ bkr bottle ( similar ) + Kayla Itsines foam roller ]

It’s super basic, but I feel like if I relaxed, exercised, stocked the fridge & washed my clothes… I’m ready to start the workweek.

What about you? How do you usually spend your Sundays?

Sunday Splash: Boxes on Boxes on Boxes

[ AQUA dress found here. ]

WE DID IT!!!

We just moved into our new apartment in San Jose. We’re surrounded by boxes and I couldn’t be more happy.

Today’s our first full day in our first home together & there’s something really special about that ( but I won’t get all sappy on you ; ) )

My goal is to unpack EVERYTHING ( Gah! It’s a LOT! ), so we can bring the dogs home tonight. HAPPY DANCE!

It’ll be the first time all 3 of our dogs are living together ( LOL this should be very interesting ) so I’m very excited about that. The Zoo is finally coming together! ( that’s what we call the three of them )

Since I’m pretty terrible at moving—like REALLY bad—I Googled “how to pack when moving” a week ago ( weird? ) and I found this awesome article in The Denver Post. It has some great tips & tricks.

I’ll share a full post on our move ( and the tips & tricks I’ve picked up ) soon, so stay tuned for that.

In other news, I’m VERY excited to stock our fridge, and line up all our drinks ( LOL! ) A little OCD-action for ya… ; ) Of course, there’ll be a row of Health-Ade Kombucha ( YUM! ) & Perrier—we need to restock these ASAP.

Come hang out on Snapchat to see more of our move. UN: joyfetti

xx!

Sunday Splash: So Much Food & Catch Phrase

[ Fresh coconut water on the beach. ]

This weekend definitely had a theme ⇢ lots of food—& A LOT of CATCH PHRASE ( my newest obsession! )

Do you guys know Catch Phrase?

For those who don’t… It’s a word guessing game—there’s usually two teams, and you’re trying to get your teammates to guess whatever word or phrase you’re given without saying the word or phrase… You have to explain it to them verbally.

You can find it on Amazon or you can use an app, like “Phrase Party” on your phone ( that’s the one we used ).

Once your team guesses the word or phrase correctly you pass it on to the other team, kind of like Hot Potato, and you keep doing that until the buzzer goes off. Whichever team is holding it when the buzzer goes off, looses the round.

Not surprisingly… We got super into it, and pretty LOUD. LOL. It’s really fun.

[ ‘Hot & Cold’ cocktails at Shell Shock in Mountain View—SO GOOD! ]

To start the weekend we went to this DELICIOUS restaurant in downtown Mountain View called Shell Shock Restaurant on Friday, and it was perfect because I really wanted fresh seafood & a spicy / refreshing cocktail.

If you’re around Mountain View, you HAVE to check it out.

Order their ‘Hot & Cold’ cocktail if you like spicy drinks. It has Hornitos Plata, cucumbers, jalapeños, & fresh lime juice… It’s really good!

I spent Saturday with family… We BBQ’ed, caught up with each other, shared stories, and played Catch Phrase ( Phrase Party ) until a little after midnight. It got pretty competitive. ; )

[ A delicious Bloody Mary at Kitchen Story SF—spicy, just the way I like it. ]

The theme continued on Sunday. The girls & I went to brunch at Kitchen Story SF and then had a little picnic at Dolores Park… With more Catch Phrase. LOL. It’s addicting!

By the way, I felt very San Francisco-y spending the day at Dolores Park. AND… THERE ARE SO MANY CUTE PUPPIES THERE! I basically oohed & awwed the entire time we were there. Minty came with us too, obviously. ; )

But… Let’s not breeze through brunch because brunch at Kitchen Story is AMAZING.

Since I’m not having eggs ( aka no Benedict for me—I’ll share more about this soon ) I ordered their Veggie burger without cheese and without ailoi. It was DELICIOUS—so was their Bloody Mary. It was spicy, just the way I like it.

Sunday Splash: I Love the Sunday Snooze

Delicious donut with sprinkles_joyfetti.com

( My fav kind of donut ⇢ pink with sprinkles! )

Is it just me, or is there something super soothing about Sunday nights?

Am I crazy?

It’s just so calm & quiet… ( LOL… Do I sound old? )

This month has been very “go, go, go” because we’ve had so many great occasions to celebrate.

But today was definitely a change of pace because like most of my Sundays, it was actually calm ( except for the last few minutes of Game 7. Those were definitely NOT calm. )

This week, I’m looking forward to working on some new projects for JOYFETTI & JOY Consulting Co., getting back into a regular schedule ( hopefully with early mornings! )—& DETOXING, kind of… Mostly from booze & cake. ; )

A little activated charcoal lemonade sounds soooo good right now.

BTW, please LMK if you have a particular brand or place you like to get it from—I’d love to check it out!

Hope you had a wonderful Sunday & Father’s Day!
