Mugs that say nice things

HI GUYS!

I’ve been working on a morning and nighttime routine for some time now ( probably over a year ) and I haven’t quite nailed it yet. LOL.

But something I’ve been really enjoying is starting my day with a small bite ( ideally 1-2 hard boiled eggs ) and hot coffee with coconut creamer—& ending it with peppermint tea.

So we go through our mugs pretty fast.

When I was putting together this round-up I came across these adorable mugs that say “love is love” all around the rim—I love them!

So I started looking for more mugs that say positive or flattering ( ‘babe‘ haha! ) messages & found these.

I think it’s fun because it helps start & end your day on a good note. You know? So here they are…

Because why not take a compliment from your mug? ; )

I love this because it has a “no excuses” kind of vibe. & btw, it’s on sale right now!

How cute is this? I’d much rather be sipping tea from a cup that says “happy” than a cup that says “I hate Mondays” LOL, that’s just me…

YES!! Love is love is love all the way! Love this message & the mug itself is super cute, too.

Sunday Splash: So Much Food & Catch Phrase

This weekend definitely had a theme ⇢ lots of food—& A LOT of CATCH PHRASE ( my newest obsession! )

Do you guys know Catch Phrase?

For those who don’t… It’s a word guessing game—there’s usually two teams, and you’re trying to get your teammates to guess whatever word or phrase you’re given without saying the word or phrase… You have to explain it to them verbally.

You can find it on Amazon or you can use an app, like “Phrase Party” on your phone ( that’s the one we used ).

Once your team guesses the word or phrase correctly you pass it on to the other team, kind of like Hot Potato, and you keep doing that until the buzzer goes off. Whichever team is holding it when the buzzer goes off, looses the round.

Not surprisingly… We got super into it, and pretty LOUD. LOL. It’s really fun.

To start the weekend we went to this DELICIOUS restaurant in downtown Mountain View called Shell Shock Restaurant on Friday, and it was perfect because I really wanted fresh seafood & a spicy / refreshing cocktail.

If you’re around Mountain View, you HAVE to check it out.

Order their ‘Hot & Cold’ cocktail if you like spicy drinks. It has Hornitos Plata, cucumbers, jalapeños, & fresh lime juice… It’s really good!

I spent Saturday with family… We BBQ’ed, caught up with each other, shared stories, and played Catch Phrase ( Phrase Party ) until a little after midnight. It got pretty competitive. ; )

The theme continued on Sunday. The girls & I went to brunch at Kitchen Story SF and then had a little picnic at Dolores Park… With more Catch Phrase. LOL. It’s addicting!

By the way, I felt very San Francisco-y spending the day at Dolores Park. AND… THERE ARE SO MANY CUTE PUPPIES THERE! I basically oohed & awwed the entire time we were there. Minty came with us too, obviously. ; )

But… Let’s not breeze through brunch because brunch at Kitchen Story is AMAZING.

Since I’m not having eggs ( aka no Benedict for me—I’ll share more about this soon ) I ordered their Veggie burger without cheese and without ailoi. It was DELICIOUS—so was their Bloody Mary. It was spicy, just the way I like it.

My DIY “Sick Tea” ( you’ll love this! )

Being sick is never fun, especially during the summer and holidays, & for some reason, I alwaysss get sick around NYEThis year I didn’t because apparently I saved it for the summer. ; )

I got a cold / cough about 2 weeks ago & thought I could shake off with some Tylenol & Advil. BUT, when it didn’t go away after a few days I remembered this AMAZING tea I made myself last year when I got sick during the holidays ( as usual )—obviously, I had to share it with you!

It’s literally the best tea ever because it’s delicious AND it works. It eased my throat as soon as I started drinking it & helped me go to sleep so I could finally get better.

But really, the health benefits of this tea are so insane I’m thinking about having it every night.

So… What’s in it?

It’s SUPER simple: just honey, lemon, & grated ginger. That’s it—easy, right?

Here’s why it works:

We’ve already covered the health benefits of having lemon ( soothing a sore throat is one of them! ) so let’s chat about the benefits of honey & ginger… Sound good? Let’s start with ginger.

Ginger:

+ fights the flu / common cold
+ helps relieve a sore throat
+ kills rhinoviruses, which cause colds in the first place
+ helps with digestion ( & reduces gas )
+ reduces nausea, especially morning sickness
+ reduces pain, including menstrual cramps, headaches, joint pain & stiffness
+ keeps your brain sharp as you age
+ lowers your risk of infections ( it’s especially effective against the oral bacteria that’s linked to inflammatory gum diseases like gingivitis )
+ lowers cholesterol levels

Sunday Splash: Garlic Steak & Martinis

HI GUYS!

Happy Sunday! It’s super hot here in Burlingame ( 73° ) so I’ve been waiting for it to cool down a bit before taking Minty on a walk.

Yesterday was exciting—I tried Espetus in San Francisco for the first time ( it’s a Brazilian Steak House ) & I ate myself into a meat coma…

A group of us went to celebrate our friend’s birthday & it was AMAZING.

Their “gauchos” come to your table with different cuts of meat ( 12 different kinds ) roasted over mesquite, and they slice and serve it to you right then & there. It’s SO good!

My favorite was their garlic steak.

AND, they have a really good salad bar. I was especially into their mango salad.

Wear a baggy shirt if you go, trust me.

Before dinner, we had martinis at Martunis ( a piano / martinis bar in SF )—I had an espresso martini because I was lagging.

Who’s excited for Monday?!

Crickets?

LOL.

I, for one, am super excited for a fresh week where I’m healthy & not coughing myself to sleep—I think I finally got rid of my cough. Fingers crossed.

The retail therapy helped a lot… ; )

PLUS, I feel like getting cute office supplies is kind of like getting new school supplies in August/September.

It gets me excited to plan & execute.

Just like how the school supplies got me excited for the school year, these office supplies get me excited for the work week—throwback to middle school, & I’m kind of into it…

[ I’m always reminding myself of this—it’s so important. ]

Since I shoot a lot of my photos inside, I try to get them all in before 1 p.m., 2 p.m. at the latest, so I can use natural lighting, which is one of the many reasons I use the Sunscape & The Weather Channel apps very regularly.

It’s okay. Just a few weeks & I’ll be in DR ( Dominican Republic! )

So worth it.

Guys! Being dehydrated SUCKS.

Don’t you agree?

When I’m dehydrated I feel sluggish, I eat more, & I don’t feel fully awake.

It’s not like I don’t like water ( I do! ) it’s just that some days I forget to drink as much as I SHOULD.

SO, I’ve developed simple tricks for drinking more water: I have two glasses right when I wake up ( the first with lemon, the second without ), I make it super accessible—i.e. there’s ALWAYS a bottle of Pellegrino &/or a bkr bottle with me at ALL times whether I’m working at my desk, in my car, working out, or running errands, and my weirdest “trick”… If I’m feeling REALLY dehydrated, I set my timer to a minute & “chug” until it goes off. ( LOL ) Weird…? Probably…?

BUT! My best trick is THIS:

Drinking from a champagne flute.

Trust me—it works!

There’s something about drinking from a champagne flute that makes it way more fun to drink water, so you end up drinking MORE.

But just a little tip if you’re trying this at the office… Keep the Pellegrino bottle realllll close & make it KNOWN there’s only water in the flute. My sister asked me once if I was drinking champagne in the middle of day ( LOL no… It wasn’t brunch ; ) )… So there is that confusion.

Take me back to… Cleveland!?!

Why I want to visit Cleveland again_joyfetti.com

When I think about traveling I picture breathtaking seascapes in Greece and charming cafes with bright, blossoming flowers, and fresh, mouthwatering foods.

What I don’t picture? Ohio.

BUT! I’d love to take another trip to Cleveland! I spent 6 days (& 5 nights) in Cleveland back in August for work and the city surprised me, in a good way.

They have a booming food scene, places like House of Blues and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and gorgeous sunsets. Plus, there were two games happening while we were there so it was extra lively—I love when there’s lots of people out & about! (aka Summer ; ))

So the food… OH. MY. GOD!! Urban Farmer. I went to Urban Farmer 3 times in less than 24 hours. IT WAS AMAZING.

Their Charcuterie Board + Cheese Plate… GORGEOUS. DELICIOUS. I can’t rave about it enough! If you’re following me on Instagram, you already know I’d travel back to Cleveland just for that. It was THAT good.

Even their simple, Local Greens Salad was AMAZING (it has popped quinoa! YUMMY!). Can you tell how much I enjoyed this place? Ha!

I flew into Cleveland on a redeye, and got in super early Tuesday morning, and was planning to head home almost just as early 5 days later.

Sunday morning was interesting… I missed my flight. I woke up 10 minutes before it was scheduled to take off. (We had a long night at Urban Farmer… LOL. We stayed at Westin most of the trip.)

I was furious at myself.

Upset.

REALLY upset.

I wanted to see Minty.

But after I had my little meltdown, I decided to make the most out of the day (the next flight to SFO wasn’t until later that night). So I showered, got dressed, and went downstairs to Urban Farmer (surprise!) for a relaxing & delicious brunch. Their team is amazing—so sweet, so thoughtful! They make the experience that much better.

While I was chit-chatting with one of their hostesses, she recommended their Bloody Mary bar—I’m not one to turn down a recommendation, so I took her suggestion. ; )

You’d think with all the brunches I’ve had, I’d know what to do… NOPE! I was a deer in the headlights at the Bloody Mary bar. I had NO IDEA what to do. The first thing I put in my glass (they give you a tall glass with vodka & ice, and you build your drink from there) was an olive—BAHAHAAA! It was the only thing I recognized right off the bat. But once I poured in the tomato juice I got real creative (aka no inhibitions, at all.) I put in a TON of fresh-squeezed lemon and lime juice, a TON of hot sauce (I only like ’em spicy!), and some other yummy looking ingredients, and of course celery, because that’s what makes it cute, more olives & a lemon for garnish. It was delicious & spicy. I think I did pretty well… What do you think??

My favorite drink to whip up this summer?

HANDS DOWN:

this fresh, minted watermelon & lime juice!

It’s so refreshing… So filling… & feels oh so summer-y!

Best part? It doesn’t cause bloating—so you still look & feel amazing in your sexy two-piece.

 

INGREDIENTS

+ 1 cup fresh watermelon, cut into cubes (this makes it easier to blend)

+ A handful of fresh mint (YUM!!)

+ Juice of 1 lime

RECIPE:

Throw all ingredients into a blender & blend! (For a few seconds…)

Ta-daaaaa! 😹 super easy!

This summer, I’ve been craving fresh, organic juices like this one here, from The Plant Cafe in Burlingame. Truth: when I fly out of SFO I plan my flight (& day) around getting a juice from The Plant Cafe in Terminal 2 before I board… Because it’s THAT GOOD!! Really.

So.

1st, a little throw back…

I vividly remember being in our small, teeny apartment in Pacific Beach (in San Diego, California) my first year out of college, and STARING at one of my friends with complete disgust (lol) and confusion as she casually chugged a huge (MASSIVE!) container of coconut water the morning after we all went out to the bars.

Fast forward 4 years and SEVERAL attempts of wanting SO BADLY to find some love for coconut water, I’ve FINALLY found a way (several ways) to enjoy it!

So why’d I try so hard to like it all these years? Because of it’s health benefits.

Coconut water experienced it’s moment in the spotlight a few years ago and during that time it was positioned as being liquid gold. Is it? No. But it does have valid benefits, including the following:

+ It’s great for rehydration

+ It’s rich in potassium (a 330mL/11.2 fl oz container of coconut water, like the ones pictured above, provide 19% of your recommended daily intake (rdi) of potassium. To put things into perspective, a medium-sized banana provides 12%)

Plus, it also…

+ provides calcium (4% dpi)

+ and magnesium (4% dpi)

So here’s how coconut water & I get along… 👯

I add it to my:

+ smoothies (<< this is by far my favorite way to enjoy it!)

+ healthy popsicles

+ & sometimes, my iced coffee

Easy/simple!
