My DIY “Sick Tea” ( you’ll love this! )

[ “do your BEST” mug found here ]

Being sick is never fun, especially during the summer and holidays, & for some reason, I always get sick around NYEThis year I didn’t because apparently I saved it for summer ; )

I got a cold / cough about 2 weeks ago & thought I could shake it off with some Tylenol & Advil. But when it didn’t go away after a few days I remembered this AMAZING tea I made myself last year when I got sick during the holidays ( as usual )

I love it because it’s delicious AND it works.

It eased my throat as soon as I started drinking it & helped me go to sleep so I could finally get better.

But really, the health benefits of this tea are so insane I’m thinking about having it every night.

So… What’s in it?

It’s super simple: just honey, lemon, & grated ginger. That’s it—easy, right?

JOYFETTI DIY %22Sick Tea%22_flat lay, mug, lemon and

Here’s why it works:

We’ve already covered the health benefits of having lemon ( soothing a sore throat is one of them! ) so let’s chat about the benefits of honey & ginger… Sound good? Let’s start with ginger.

+ fights the flu / common cold
+ helps relieve a sore throat
+ kills rhinoviruses, which cause colds in the first place
+ helps with digestion ( & reduces gas )
+ reduces nausea, especially morning sickness
+ reduces pain, including menstrual cramps, headaches, joint pain & stiffness
+ keeps your brain sharp as you age
+ lowers your risk of infections ( it’s especially effective against the oral bacteria that’s linked to inflammatory gum diseases like gingivitis )
+ lowers cholesterol levels
+ & it’s anti-inflammatory properties help reduce muscle pain caused by exercise

LONGGGG list, right? It also increases energy and promotes a healthy complexion & hair, and an overall lower weight. I’m thinking I need to have ginger all day, everyday—sick or not sick. Okay, let’s take a look at honey…

+ reduces cough & throat irritation ( YES! ) & helps fight off a cold
+ helps regulate blood sugar levels ( artificial sweeteners & white sugar DO NOT! )
+ increases athletic performance & provides a quick boost of energy for your workout ( yes, please! )
+ promotes beautiful skin
+ promotes brain health
+ acts as a natural sleep aid
+ & is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial & anti-fungal

Basically I should have this tea every night, right? ; )

JOYFETTI DIY %22Sick Tea%22_flat lay,

Here’s how to make JOYFETTI DIY “Sick Tea”

You need:

+ Freshly squeezed lemon juice ( I use 1/2 – 1 lemon )

4th of July Style Vibes

Fourth of July Style

What do you have planned for the 4th?

Hopefully I’ll be sipping some sangria in a bikini, and enjoying some shrimp ceviche & BBQ. Style-wise I’ll keep it simple with subtle hints of red, white & blue.

Here are a few looks I’m loving:

How insane is the detail and plunging neckline on this bodysuit? I’M OBSESSED! Pair this with a high-waisted maxi skirt and baby blue nails ( or red nails, if you prefer ) & you’re golden.

Last year I shared an American Flag bikini with you, but like I said, I’m going with SUBTLE this year ( LOL ), so this navy bikini is perfect! I love the detail on the top, and the bottoms have a little stitch down the middle in the back, which gives it a better fit, especially when you’re swimming.

If you’re going to a pool party, you HAVE TO check out this pool float. I feel like it goes with our theme of patriotic, yet subtle—it has the right colors… ; )

Red tie-dye? YES! If you’re going to a pool party, I love the idea of wearing a sarong because you can wear with your bikini top—how great is that? So effortless & chic.

This is SO cute & you can literally throw it on & go. I love the deep v!

I’m obsessed with stripes in general… But they’re also perfect for 4th of July. I’d pair these with cute cut-off shorts and aviators. Simple, comfy, cute!

Don’t forget to stay hydrated with a cute BKR bottle. This red / white heart one is perfect for the 4th.

What to Pack for Punta Cana

What to Pack for Punta Cana, Dominican

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. We BBQ’d a little & took Minty into the pool for the FIRST time ( exciting! )—there’s a short clip of her in the pool on her Instagram so if you missed it on Snapchatcheck it out.

I also put together this “what to pack for Punta Cana list.” I spent 5 days in DR a few weeks ago, and COMPLETELY overpacked ( x10 )…

There were 6 of us on the trip, and I was the only one who checked a bag. AND, I still carried more onto the plane than anyone else. It was THAT bad.

But… Now that I know what it’s like to spend a few days at a resort in DR, I’m sharing my tips with you.

ALSO, if you have general packing tips, please share! I need your help. LOL, THANK YOU!

Okay, here’s what to pack:

Bikinis ( lots of them )

You basically live in your bikini all day ( or at least we did ) so bring plenty. We’re off to a good start, aren’t we? HA! ; )

Baby doll dresses / strapless cover-ups

… To throw on top of your bikini. These are super easy and lightweight, which is perfect for DR. The weather’s really hot & you’ll be in your bikini most of the time, so stick with outfits that aren’t too fussy.

Maxi skirts & dresses

I love these for nighttime & dinner.

Crop tops

… To wear with your maxi skirt.  ( A maxi skirt + crop top is one of my favorite looks for spring / summer, in general! )

Flip flops

YES! So easy—slip them on and go. I recommend bringing one for the pool and another pair like these for nighttime.

Did I mention it’s hot there? ; ) Take your sunnies.

A mophie…

I never used a mophie ( much ) before this trip, but now I’m in love! Take one with you to keep your phone charged all day.

Dainty jewelry ( always )

Dainty jewelry is always a good idea. Plus it’s lightweight, which makes it easy to wear in the heat.

Sunscreen + beauty / skincare

Don’t go without sunscreen, OBVIOUSLY!

Other items I recommend…

+ aloe vera ⇢ I SLATHERED sunscreen on my face, multiple times, and still got a little burnt. Take aloe vera with you to soothe and heal any sunburns you might get. Fingers crossed you don’t need, but come prepared.
+ body oils & lotion ⇢ I took so many body oils & lotions, LOL. I LOVE this one body oil.
+ shampoo / conditioner / body wash ⇢ I forgot to bring these but I borrowed a friend’s on our last day & it was sooo nice to have while on our trip—the shampoo / conditioner / body wash there wasn’t that great, so if you’re particular about your hair products and body wash, bring them. Plus it was nice to have a familiar scent from home while on our trip. Weird? I thought it was nice! : )

I also sprayed myself with this toning mist all day, every day. Read more about it here.

Also, quick tip—if you’re packing a blowdryer / straightener / curling iron, consider leaving them at home. I brought all three ( surprise, surprise ), and I used my straightener ONCE, and I didn’t even touch my blowdryer or curling iron. You won’t need them.

Okay, have you been to DR? Anything we should add to the list? Let me know below.

Also, where are you going this summer… Any fun trips? Would love to hear!

Sunday Splash: Dominican Republic, Puppy Love & Our GIVEAWAY Winner!

Sunday Splash_Dominican Republic, Puppy Love & the GIVEAWAY Winner_Flight to Punta Cana, Dominican

[ Our flight into Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We arrived! ]

Hello, hello, hello—HAPPY SUNDAY!

How’s your day been?

Today was my first Sunday back from DR & it felt soooo good! I was so relaxed, so energized, & so not hungover, which was a really nice change from vacationing in DR. We stayed at a resort with swim-up bars in all the pools, soooo… As you can imagine, it was very easy to get drinks.

AND! … SUPER easy to get to the beach, which I loved. We had a view of the ocean every day at lunch ( it was so incredible ), and we could run back and forth from the pool to the ocean in less than a minute. It was AMAZING.

Sunday Splash_Dominican Republic, Puppy Love & the GIVEAWAY Winner_Punta Cana, Dominican

I’m putting together a “What to Pack for Punta Cana” post this week, so stay tuned for that.

&, side note—some of my friends asked me to share some makeup & skincare posts, so stay tuned for more of those in the next few weeks.

I really, really want to know what YOU ( yes, you! ) what to hear about, so please let me know… Comment below, email me ( ) or let me know on social. I want to hear from you. : )

So… Why was today so relaxing?

It’s all about how I started the day.

I got coffee with a few of my girl friends ( LOVEEE ) this morning, & it was SO nice to catch up with them, get a little caffeine buzz & walk Minty.

I feel like a little get-together with the girls is a MUST, right?! Like water… I need it to survive.

After a 3 hour ( LOL, that’s how I like ’em ) coffee date, I sat myself at the computer where I’ve been working for the past 5-6 hours ( not complaining, I love it—& I took breaks here & there. )

I poured myself a big glass of Kombucha—GT’s Guava Goddess—in a champagne flute, opened a bottle of Pellegrino ( LOL, getting wild ; ) ), put on some Cuban music, and lit a citrus candle.

I switched over to JOYFETTI Playlist — Carefree on Spotify a few hours ago to mix it up.

Sunday Splash_Dominican Republic, Puppy Love & the GIVEAWAY Winner_Go-to salad and kombucha in a champ

[ My go-to salad lately ⇢ organic arugula, goat cheese, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, + salt & pepper. So simple & so delicious. ]

The Guava Goddess in the champagne flute looks SO much like a Bellini, right!? I’m kind of into it…

I got a bottle of sauvignon blanc with notes of grapefruit earlier today, & it’s still chilling in the fridge. I just sipped on my Kombucha all day and pretended it was a Bellini. ; ) HAHA. Next time ⇢ definitely GT’s Guava Goddess + champ. YUM!

I had the BEST sauvignon blanc with notes of grapefruit last night, with dinner, so naturally, I picked up a similar bottle so I could have a liiittttle bit more. ; ) I don’t know the name of yesterday’s wine, but I’ll get it for you guys this week so you can try it out if you’d like. It was a-mazingggg.

Sunday Splash_Dominican Republic, Puppy Love & the GIVEAWAY Winner_Minty at the dog

[ Minty found some shade & peace ( HA ) in a little tunnel at the dog park yesterday. Follow her on Instagram for more pics & vids. ]

This week was FULL of doggy play dates and visits to the dog park, which I LOVED! Minty‘s been warming up to dog parks, slowly but surely. She’s making progress, little by little.

I snapped all the fun from yesterday’s dog park, but since we went in the afternoon it’s not in my story anymore, I’m sorry! Follow us on SNAPCHAT so you don’t miss any of the fun. Username ⇢ JOYFETTI

In other news ⇢ we have a WINNER!! Jessica, ( @mommywithtwins7 on Instagram)—congratulations!

Thank you, everyone, who entered the healthy snacks giveaway on Instagram. Let me know… What do you want to see in our next giveaway?

Superfood Spotlight: Dragon Fruit

Insane health benefits of dragon

Health benefits of dragon fruit_dragon fruit

[ Bite-sized cubes, so yummy! ]

Today I’m sharing some benefits of one of my FAVORITE fruits, ever ⇢ DRAGON FRUIT.

This fruit is insane—it’s so yummy, so pretty, AND it’s full of benefits.

What benefits? Glad you asked!

+ First up, antioxidants. They’re full of vitamin C—a small dragon fruit will provide you with almost 35% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C. Vitamin C strengthens your immune system. It helps your body get rid of toxins, heal cells, and cope with stress. It’s also an important antioxidant for overall health and clear, beautiful skin ( so is water! )

+ Next up… FIBER. According to this source, it can be used as a natural remedy for constipation.—”Dragon fruit seeds, in particular, appear to have strong laxative properties.” ( Don’t worry, they’re not TOO strong. ; ) ) One of the nutrients that contributes to this is fiber.

+ Keeping your skin tight & youthful—you can thank all the antioxidants & vitamins!

+ Protecting your hair color—this one isn’t about eating it. According to this source, if you put the juice of a dragon fruit or a conditioner containing it on your scalp, it can help protect your chemically treated or colored hair. Pretty cool, right?

+ It’s anti-inflammatory and helps decrease joint pain.

+ On top of all that, it’s low in cholesterol, rich in vitamin B1, B2, and B3, and minerals such as iron ( it provides more than 10% of your recommended daily intake ) and calcium, the seeds are high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, AND it’s only 60 calories.

YUM! I’m a super fan.

Health benefits of dragon fruit_dragon fruit

[ My favorite way to eat dragon fruit ⇢ round slices… Dragon fruit “cookies” ; ) ]

I know some people make smoothies or ice cream with it… Sounds delicious, but I like to eat it piece by piece & savor it. I told you, I’m obsessed.

I like to slice them into circles, peel them, and eat them like cookies. ( LOL )

HALLOWEEN COSTUME IDEA? Dragon fruit cookie monster…?

Sometimes I cut them into cubes. How do you eat your dragon fruit? Show me on Instagram, so I can take a peek!

xx! <3,

Bikini Meals: Shrimp Ceviche

Bikini Meals_Shrimp Ceviche on, aerial shot

I’ve been bringing shrimp ceviche to summer parties / BBQs for years now! Why? Because it’s light, easy to make, and delicious!

It’s the perfect meal if you’re bikini-clad…

Shrimp ceviche is full of water-filled veggies (cucumber & avocado), so it fills you up without making you feel bloated.

( Tip—leave out the onions if you want to avoid onion breathe 🙊😉 )

Bikini Meals_Shrimp Ceviche on, close-up

Here’s the quick & easy recipe:

Serves 6-8

+ 2 lbs cooked medium shrimp

+ 2 tbsp salt

+ 3/4 cup lime juice (3-6 limes)

+ 3/4 cup lemon juice (3-6 lemons)

+ 1 cup finely chopped red onion

+ 1 serrano pepper, ribs & seeds removed (b/c they’re extremely SPICY!!!), minced

( Quick, little tip… I use gloves when working with the serrano pepper because the spice stays on your fingers even after you’ve washed your hands a few times, and I’ve DEFINITELY burned my eyes because of it. )

+ 1 cup chopped cilantro

+ 1 cucumber, diced into 1/2-inch pieced

+ 1 avocado, peeled, seed removed, cut into 1/2-inch chunks

Bikini Meals_Shrimp Ceviche on, close-up bowl

+ Place cooked shrimp in glass or ceramic bowl and mix in lime & lemon juice. Cover & refrigerate for a half hour.

+ Mix in chopped red onion & serrano pepper. Refrigerate an additional half hour.

+ Right before serving ( mmmmm ), add the cilantro, cucumber, & avocado!

ENJOY! : )

Superfood Spotlight: Avocado

Superfood Spotlight on avocado on

No one has to convince me to eat an avocado… (they’re delicious!)

If they did…

Hearing these 4 benefits would do the trick!

+ It’s Nutrient-dense: here are a few standouts… A single California avocado contains a TON of fiber (36% of your recommended daily intake (rdi)), vitamin B-6 (20% rdi) and vitamin C (33% rdi). It has nearly 2x the potassium of a banana (19% rdi vs. 1 medium banana (7″ to 8″ long) at 12% rdi), AND, it provides you with some magnesium (9%) << I’ll take it! Basically, an avocado has as much nutrients as it has flavor.

Mmmmm… Avocado. Haha! Okay, next up…

+ It’s a HEALTHY fat: yes, these do exist! ; ) Fat is good for you—if it’s the right kind. Your body NEEDS healthy fats. Healthy fats help to increase GOOD cholesterol (HDL), give you energy, and support cell growth. They also help your body absorb nutrients, and produce important hormones. Healthy fats mostly come from vegetables, nuts, seeds and fish.

+ It stabilizes blood sugar levels (<< this is great for fitness, health & weight loss!): avocado slows digestion, which keeps blood sugar from spiking after a meal. Why does this matter? Because a well-balanced blood sugar level can improve your overall fitness and health, regulate your hormones, trigger your body to burn stored fat (YES!), and increase your metabolism (WIN!) to help you lose weight. Pretty cool, right!?

+ It keeps you full longer (<< hellooo, weight loss!): a recent study led by Dr. Joan Sabate, Chair of the Department of Nutrition at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, (and funded by Hass Avocado Board, surprise, surprise 😉) found that participants who added half of a fresh avocado to their lunch were 40% less likely to want a snack within 3 hours after lunch, and 28% less likely to want a snack within 5 hours after lunch, than those that didn’t enjoy the beauty that is avocado during lunch (ha!). Good news!! Right!?

Show of hands:

Who’s ready for some avocado?

& who want’s to see an avocado Emoji? Haha, I kid, kinda.

Superfood Spotlight: Lemons & Limes

Lemons and limes on

Lemons & limes are arguably two of the most versatile, and accessible, superfoods!

Let’s take a look at some of their superpowers:

+ High in vitamin C (lemon > lime)

+ Good source of pectin fiber

+ Good source of folate (a B vitamin, also known as “folic acid”)

+ Reduce hunger cravings (hello, fiber!)

+ Help detoxify your body

+ Help soothe a sore throat (lemon)

Plus… They compliment and bring out the flavors in our favorite eats + sips—yum!

So, here are a few ways I enjoy these superfoods:

I add them to…

+ Water (hot or cold)

+ Tea

+ Fresh juice (OBSESSED with The Plant Cafe‘s “Healthy Sunrise” & “Immune Builder” juices!)

+ Homemade lemonade

+ Soup

+ Fish

+ Ceviche

+ Salsa

+ Guacamole

+ Salad

+ Quinoa

Pretty much anything, and everything😂—they’re super versatile!

How do you enjoy lemons & limes? If you’re thinking with a shot of tequila… Ah, you’re my kind of girl/guy! ; )
