JOYFETTI book club: audiobooks you’ll love

When it comes to commuting, I’m not a fan—since I use to commute over an hour to get to work, I picked up a lot of tricks to make it more bearable.

My favorite trick, by far, was listening to audiobooks.

But they had to be the right audiobook.

The narrator’s reading style is super important to me. Personally, I like a narrator that reads how they speak—I definitely can’t do monotone because it puts me to sleep, which is the last thing you want when you’re driving.

Usually, I like the narrator to be the author, but “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” by Mark Manson was an exception—it was read by Roger Wayne, not Mark Manson, & it was incredible.

I’m so obsessed with audiobooks that even though I don’t have a super long commute anymore, I still listen to them while I’m driving.

These are some my favorites that I HIGHLY recommend.

This was a super fun, funny read, as you can imagine. I listened to it about 2 years ago, & I definitely would listen to it again.

One of my favorite tidbits, which I think about all the time, is when Amy Poehler talks about her experience of writing the book and she shares her epiphany that “The doing is the thing. The talking and worrying and thinking is not the thing.” Basically, she’s telling us to get to it ; ) Do the thing, whatever that is for you at the moment.

“While listening to Yes Please, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll become convinced that your phone is trying to kill you. Don’t miss this collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haikus from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers. Offering Amy’s thoughts on everything from her “too safe” childhood outside of Boston to her early days in New York City, her ideas about Hollywood and “the biz”, the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a “face for wigs” – Yes Please is chock-full of words, and wisdom, to live by.”

Also a super fun, funny read. I listened to Bossypants probably 2 or 3 years ago, & recently re-listened to it—obviously a winner.

Tina Fey shares some awesome (& hilarious) stories from her life, including her time with SNL.

“At last, Tina Fey’s story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon – from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we’ve all suspected: you’re no one until someone calls you bossy.”

This book was amazing—I bookmarked so many parts so I could easily go back to them (audible has a clips & bookmarks feature, which I love!)

I first heard of Mark Manson when I read his piece “The Most Important Question of Your Life” on his site. It made such a big impact on me, it’s still bookmarked on my toolbar. I definitely recommend checking that out if you haven’t already—it’s an 8-minute read.

“Manson makes the argument, backed by both academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade but on learning to stomach lemons better…. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek….

There are only so many things we can give a f*ck about, so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear.”

This is the book I’m listening to right now.

Arrash & I watch The Daily Show ALL THE TIME so downloading this was a no brainer. Side note: Trevor Noah’s “Afraid of the Dark” stand up on Netflix is sooo good—definitely check that out too if you haven’t already.

I love this book for so many reasons: 1) Trevor Noah, obviously 2) His life story is incredible 3) It’s been teaching me so much about South Africa’s history and apartheid.

It’s packed with so much info, I use audible’s 30-second rewind feature all the time because I just don’t want to miss anything.

It moves pretty quickly, so I have to be in the right mindset for it, just so I can absorb everything it offers.

I’m so obsessed with this audiobook, I’ve already recommended it my sister, Arrash, and a ton of my friends. You’ll love it! I clearly am : )

“Trevor Noah, one of the comedy world’s fastest-rising stars and host of The Daily Show, tells his wild coming-of-age story during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed. In this Audible Studios production, Noah provides something deeper than traditional memoirists: powerfully funny observations about how farcical political and social systems play out in our lives.”

To me, this was an incredible book that was really empowering and shared great stories. I think part of the reason why I loved this book so much was because I listened to the audiobook—it’s read by Sheryl Sandberg, which gave it a really personal feel.

I’ve heard the criticism that it doesn’t speak to lower-income women and I totally get that.

In her latest book, Option B, she opens by acknowledging these socioeconomic differences, so it’s something she’s opened up about as well.

Side note: I pre-ordered Option B and started listening to it in the car when it came out, but I quicklyyyy started balling. I was crying my eyes out. I’ll definitely go back to it, but most likely won’t listen to it while I’m driving. Teary eyes aren’t great when you’re trying to see the road.

Have you guys read Option B yet? What are your thoughts?

This book was SUPER juicy. I couldn’t stop listening to it.

I have this rule that I don’t listen to audiobooks unless I’m driving, because it makes me more excited to drive LOL.

But I broke my rule so many times with this book, especially while on the stair master at the gym.

It’s a pretty light read but it also touches on heavy subjects like abuse, which for me, was difficult because it triggered some bad personal memories—just something to be aware of if it’s a trigger for you too.

I’m really excited to read her second book. She’s such an amazing writer & I love her writing style.

“The shocking, never-before-told story of the bizarre world inside the legendary Playboy Mansion – and finally the secret truth about the man who holds the key – from one of the few people who truly knows: Hef’s former number-one girlfriend and star of The Girls Next Door….

A cautionary tale and a celebration of personal empowerment, Down the Rabbit Hole reminds us of the importance of fighting for our dreams – and finding the life we deserve.”

What are some audiobooks you guys recommend? I’m always looking to download new ones : )

Instagrammable summer swag

Summer is hands down my favorite season & it’s always been, so this collage was super fun to put together.

I’m jumping the gun a little bit…

But having spent the past few weekends in Palm Springs, Miami, & San Diego ( I know, such a rough life ; ) lol ) I feel like summer’s basically here.

It’s pretty warm here in the Bay Area, but definitely not like it was in Miami…

I was dripping sweat after walking 1/2 mile in Miami.

But I loveeee it there. It’s so pretty.

Anyways, these item scream summer—& they’re very “Insta-worthy”.

If you’ve never said that before I don’t believe you ; )

Kidding… Kind of.

Side note: if you sell consumer products definitely consider how your products & / or packaging will look when photographed by an everyday consumer. It might sound silly, but creating product & / or packaging thats “Instagrammable” ( & / or plays to current trends on Instagram ) is a really smart business move because it encourages consumers to snap & share photos of your product, which is basically free marketing for your business. So consider it.

Okay, back to these items… AREN’T THEY SO CUTE??

A pink flamingo looks great in blue water because it POPS! Take a look here: @bikinist.

I love this towel because it reminds me of those really cute Santorini photos I always see on Instagram. It’s very chic, which I love.

We took these cameras to two of my friends’ bachelorette parties ( part of the reason why I’ve been traveling so many weekends ) & they were so much fun. You can take polaroids with each other and even do a flat lay with them ( I know how I sound & I’m okay with it lol )

These cameras are super fun!

I’d much rather eat homemade popsicles than those sugar-filled ones you can find in stores. Honestly, I think homemade popsicles taste better and they can be way more healthy than the store bought ones, so I’m totally game to make my own. Here’s a recipe I love, that’s super quick & easy!

I love these molds because they’re very summer-y.

Which ones your favorite: pineapple or watermelon?

I love tropical plants so this beach towel, to me, is perfect! Plus, I love the round beach towel trend that’s going on right now.

These are so cute & they’re perfect for summer cocktails—or your Instagram ; )

I typically use glass but plastic cups are great when you’re at the pool. I like this one because of its colors. It also comes in a taller style, which is ideal for mixed drinks ; )

Alright, what are you guys getting for summer?

Mugs that say nice things

HI GUYS!

I’ve been working on a morning and nighttime routine for some time now ( probably over a year ) and I haven’t quite nailed it yet. LOL.

But something I’ve been really enjoying is starting my day with a small bite ( ideally 1-2 hard boiled eggs ) and hot coffee with coconut creamer—& ending it with peppermint tea.

So we go through our mugs pretty fast.

When I was putting together this round-up I came across these adorable mugs that say “love is love” all around the rim—I love them!

So I started looking for more mugs that say positive or flattering ( ‘babe‘ haha! ) messages & found these.

I think it’s fun because it helps start & end your day on a good note. You know? So here they are…

Because why not take a compliment from your mug? ; )

I love this because it has a “no excuses” kind of vibe. & btw, it’s on sale right now!

How cute is this? I’d much rather be sipping tea from a cup that says “happy” than a cup that says “I hate Mondays” LOL, that’s just me…

YES!! Love is love is love all the way! Love this message & the mug itself is super cute, too.

Have you guys seen any other mugs you love? Link to them below?

Also, what are your thoughts on morning / bedtime routines?

I’m always fascinated by what people do right when they wake up & before they go to bed. Would love to hear about your morning / bedtime routine if you have one.

Chat soon!

Lovey-dovey hearts

HI GUYS!!!

Happy ( almost ) Valentine’s Day!

Do you guys notice all the pinks, reds, and hearts in every store? LOL, it’s hard to miss.

Since it’s almost Valentine’s Day I figured it’s the perfect time to share some lovey-dovey heart items with you.

Side note… Once, when I was living at home ( I think it was about 2 or 3 years ago ) my mom looked around at all the stuff I had around ( my laptop, my laptop case, all of Minty‘s things ) and said with such disgust ( & in Farsi ), “I think I’m going to puke if you bring one more pink thing into the house.”

LOL. Whoops! ; )

So, when it comes to furniture and home design I lean towards neutrals ( usually white )… But when it comes to things, I love pink & I love hearts. LOL. Am I 5? ; )

Alright, enough about me… Let’s get into these cuties!

Okay, so obviously I had to find us some PJs with hearts on them—so perfect for Valentine’s Day! 😍 If I’m splurging on PJs, it’s definitely for these.

These are basically the grown up, “I’m into fashion but I make own rules” version of those bright red, heart-shaped sunglasses we all wore when we were little. Remember those? Definitely another splurge, but I’m always down to window shop ; )

These mugs are adorable ( !!! ) & even better, I love their message—the inside says, “love is love is love” all around. So perfect for Valentine’s Day & really every day. Makes for a great gift idea too!

I’m OBSESSED with my bkr bottles—& you most likely already know this. This one is especially great for Valentine’s Day. I also love this black / copper one & this baby pink / silver one. Super cute!

Okay, so I’m a big fan of writing things down on paper so I’m always kind of on the hunt for cute notebooks. This one is fun & personal because they print your name & initials on it, which I love. Also, Minted has great products. I love their quality.

ban.do is SO MUCH fun—this is the perfect dish to have on your nightstand. Doesn’t it just make you smile? : )

These pens are great! They’re cute but practical & also look great on Instagram ( let’s be real, that’s part of their appeal ; ) LOL ) But really, they’re great pens—I love writing with them.

Okay, how are you guys getting ready for Valentine’s Day?

If you’re looking for a quick and easy VDAY recipe ( something sweet ), definitely try these chocolate covered strawberries. They’re delicious & VERY easy to make.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale… Fav Items for the Home

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale_for the home_joyfetti.com

You know what’s fun?

Online shopping.

& Browsing!

I’ve been browsing & pinning a lot lately, especially for my home & office so when I checked out the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale I went STRAIGHT to the ‘HOME‘ section.

Plus, when you’re shopping for your home you don’t have to worry about FIT.

Side note ⇢ have you ever purchased a baggy sweater online that looked so cute online and then you got it in the mail… And it looked terrible when you put it on? Me too. Which is why I love online shopping for my home / office. LOL.

Since there’s so many great deals happening right now, I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite home items that are on sale ( big time! )

Ready? : )

I really like that this comes with a holder because it helps the kitchen stay organized. Plus, how cute are these copper handles? I LOVE ’em!

Doesn’t this pillow make you smile? I love the clean lines and bright, happy color.

But really… This entire collection. I’m obsessed with marble, especially white marble. This tray is perfect for displaying everyday lotions and beauty items so they’re accessible, but still organized.

This rug is SO cute! Plus, it comes in 4 different sizes ( or dimensions )—this long, narrow one is perfect for long hallways ( if you live in San Francisco you know exactly what I mean. )

This basket is perfect for holding toys ( Minty‘s, LOL ), magazines or other items in your home. AND it’s super cute—such a great find!

I’m almost always burning a candle when I’m in the house, but I love having an oil diffuser in the bathroom. Antica has amazing scents like pomegranate / currant / blood orange, grapefruit, and vanilla / bourbon / mandarin—sounds sooo good, right?

Have you guys been shopping ( or browsing ) the Sale? I’d love to hear what you’ve been eyeing! : )

4th of July Style Vibes

Fourth of July Style Vibes_joyfetti.com

What do you have planned for the 4th?

Hopefully I’ll be sipping some sangria in a bikini, and enjoying some shrimp ceviche & BBQ. Style-wise I’ll keep it simple with subtle hints of red, white & blue.

Here are a few looks I’m loving:

WHITE LACE UP PLUNGING BODYSUIT

How insane is the detail and plunging neckline on this bodysuit? I’M OBSESSED! Pair this with a high-waisted maxi skirt and baby blue nails ( or red nails, if you prefer ) & you’re golden.

NAVY FRANKIE’S BIKINIS TOP & BOTTOM

Last year I shared an American Flag bikini with you, but like I said, I’m going with SUBTLE this year ( LOL ), so this navy bikini is perfect! I love the detail on the top, and the bottoms have a little stitch down the middle in the back, which gives it a better fit, especially when you’re swimming.

If you’re going to a pool party, you HAVE TO check out this pool float. I feel like it goes with our theme of patriotic, yet subtle—it has the right colors… ; )

MAROON TIE DYE MUMU SARONG

Red tie-dye? YES! If you’re going to a pool party, I love the idea of wearing a sarong because you can wear with your bikini top—how great is that? So effortless & chic.

BABY BLUE STRIPPED WRAP DRESS

This is SO cute & you can literally throw it on & go. I love the deep v!

NAVY STRIPPED TIE-SIDE TANK TOP

I’m obsessed with stripes in general… But they’re also perfect for 4th of July. I’d pair these with cute cut-off shorts and aviators. Simple, comfy, cute!

Don’t forget to stay hydrated with a cute BKR bottle. This red / white heart one is perfect for the 4th.

Bita

Must-Haves for the Babe Who Runs Outside

Must-Haves for the Babe Who Runs Outside_joyfetti.com

Running is one of my favorite ways to break a sweat—& it’s kind of like therapy.

It’s one of the few workouts where I actually focus on my movement & get away from my thoughts / work / etc… If I’m having a bad day, I run. Lately, I’ve been getting back into running in the morning & it’s been AMAZING. There’s something about starting the day with a run that’s so freeing and energizing. I LOVE IT!

Are you a runner?

If you enjoy running outside, like I do, these items are for YOU! & if you’re not, maybe they’ll motivate you to give it a try. ; )

First up…

1. A MIRA BRACELET

I’ve been using Mira for a hot minute ( 2-3 days, LOL! ) BUT I’m already so in love with it. Hear me out…

Before Mira, I just used the Stepz app, but I wanted something I could wear that was more accurate ( i.e. tracked my steps while I worked out, moved around the house, etc… ) that didn’t make me cling to my phone ( because I do enough of that already ).

Mira syncs with my phone ( through their app ) and is so clean & easy to use. Isn’t it cute?

I put it on like a bracelet when I wake up & wear it throughout day. It’s been giving me a nice mental switch… When I put it on in the morning I know it’s time to tackle the day & when I take it off before bed I know it’s time to wind down & go to sleep.

If you’re a runner ( & even if you’re not )… Take a look at Mira. I have it in their Polished Rosé All Day color & I love it!

AND—BTW, it’s on sale right now. WOO!

2. BEATS BY DRE EARBUDS

Honestly, the gold color got me & their reputation sealed the deal.

These earbuds are GREAT for running. If you follow me on SNAPCHAT ( username ⇢ joyfetti ) you already know this. ; ) I always listen to Spotify or Pandora when I’m running so a good pair of headphones is VERY necessary. My run is 543482948394935 more intense & amazing when I’m listening to music while I run.

If you’re looking for new music,  follow me on Spotify to check out my favorite Spotify playlists and to listen to the JOYFETTI playlists.

3. ZELLA ‘LIVE IN’ CROP LEGGINGS

I’ve never been gung-ho about a pair of leggings until I tried these. I know it’s weird to talk about a pair of leggings like this… But they really SUCK YOU IN. So weird, I know… But it’s true. The fit is amazing, and so is the quality. I guess that’s why they called them “live in” leggings, you’ll want to live in them.

4. A BKR WATER BOTTLE

I tried running without a water bottle the other day & it just wasn’t as good. I got thirsty and sounded like a dog that’s dehydrated ( LOL, because I was dehydrated—it’s hot out. )

Plus, why not drink water when you work out? It’s a win, win…

I like the 500 mL bottle for running & workouts in general.

5. SUNSCREEN ( !!! )

This is a big one! When it comes to running outside ( especially during the summer ) one of the most important things to remember is to put on sunscreen.

5 years ago you wouldn’t find me preaching about the importance of putting on sunscreen, but times change. ( THANK GOD! LOL )

I’ve come to realize the QUALITY ( & health! ) of my skin is MUCH more important than the color. So no thanks to a little runner’s tan ( or really, burn ), I’m much more interested in keeping my skin smooth & healthy. You can’t replace your skin… Think about it.

One of my friend’s, Kheri ( she’s an esthetician ), recommended Osmosis Protect Sunscreen, and I love the feel & texture of it. It’s the only sunscreen I’ve tried thus far that I actually look forward to putting on. It feels like a quality skincare lotion. It’s that good. Plus, it doesn’t say this… But I feel like it’s kind of tinted ( kind of )—it doesn’t have that typical, gross, cake-y white color most sunscreens have. In the description it says it’s “sheer” & it totally is—& it smells good.

Unheard of right… A sunscreen that smells good? It does. Try it out & LMK how you like it. : )

I have the 30 mL bottle right now, but I’m planning to get the 200 mL when I run out. I put it on every day now.

6. CUTE SNEAKERS

I’ve been running in Nike Frees for yearssss now. I love that they’re cute and petite ( not too chunky like some sneakers ) & they’re comfortable for me. Find a pair of sneakers that work for you, and are comfortable and provide support, and be sure to get a new pair when they start to feel funny.

The lifespan of a pair of sneakers varies depending on the shoe and how often you use it, but generally experts say it’s time to get a new pair after 300-500 miles. I usually notice it’s time for a new pair after 6 months to a year. What about you?

BTW, for those of you who hate running, I use to hate it too, but now I LOVE it. It’s such an INSANE workout and it feels soooo good! I’ve been running for 7 years now ( as an exercise ) & let me tell you I definitely see a difference between my face & body when I’m running consistently. I look & FEEL way more lean.

PLUS, it’s one of the BEST forms of therapy for me.

LMK if you give it a try! : )

Cute Makeup Bags

Cute makeup bags, joyfetti.com

… & they’re all under $30 ( !!! )

My compact broke recently ( in the worst place ever… In my car… It was parked ) & the powder got allllllll over my makeup bag. I’m sure you can relate?

SO, I found the upside & started browsing for a cute, new bag. ( LOL )

Here are a few on my wish list:

1 ) This classic, simple, all-black cosmetic bag by Bobby Brown

It’s on sale! BTW : ) I love this one because it LITERALLY goes with everything. I know we’re not talking about a dress or a clutch, or shoes, but I love how you can throw this in ANY bag and it won’t clash with it. Kind of nice, don’t you think? I’m all about this one!

2 ) This fun & flirty hot pink pouch

How fun is this pouch? I love the playful font & bold color.

3 ) This playful cosmetic case

Doesn’t this SCREAM New York? I like that about it. Plus, it’s BRIGHT yellow so hopefully, if / when ( definitely WHEN ) I misplace it, it’ll be easier to find—right?

4 ) This cute & quirky LeSportsac cosmetic pouch

I love the pattern & the playful colors.

So… Which one of these do you guys like the most?

What to Pack for Punta Cana

What to Pack for Punta Cana, Dominican Republic_joyfetti.com

HI GUYS!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. We BBQ’d a little & took Minty into the pool for the FIRST time ( exciting! )—there’s a short clip of her in the pool on her Instagram so if you missed it on Snapchatcheck it out.

I also put together this “what to pack for Punta Cana list.” I spent 5 days in DR a few weeks ago, and COMPLETELY overpacked ( x10 )…

There were 6 of us on the trip, and I was the only one who checked a bag. AND, I still carried more onto the plane than anyone else. It was THAT bad.

But… Now that I know what it’s like to spend a few days at a resort in DR, I’m sharing my tips with you.

ALSO, if you have general packing tips, please share! I need your help. LOL, THANK YOU!

Okay, here’s what to pack:

Bikinis ( lots of them )

You basically live in your bikini all day ( or at least we did ) so bring plenty. We’re off to a good start, aren’t we? HA! ; )

Baby doll dresses / strapless cover-ups

… To throw on top of your bikini. These are super easy and lightweight, which is perfect for DR. The weather’s really hot & you’ll be in your bikini most of the time, so stick with outfits that aren’t too fussy.

Maxi skirts & dresses

I love these for nighttime & dinner.

Crop tops

… To wear with your maxi skirt.  ( A maxi skirt + crop top is one of my favorite looks for spring / summer, in general! )

Flip flops

YES! So easy—slip them on and go. I recommend bringing one for the pool and another pair like these for nighttime.

Sunnies

Did I mention it’s hot there? ; ) Take your sunnies.

A mophie…

I never used a mophie ( much ) before this trip, but now I’m in love! Take one with you to keep your phone charged all day.

Dainty jewelry ( always )

Dainty jewelry is always a good idea. Plus it’s lightweight, which makes it easy to wear in the heat.

Sunscreen + beauty / skincare

Don’t go without sunscreen, OBVIOUSLY!

Other items I recommend…

+ aloe vera ⇢ I SLATHERED sunscreen on my face, multiple times, and still got a little burnt. Take aloe vera with you to soothe and heal any sunburns you might get. Fingers crossed you don’t need, but come prepared.
+ body oils & lotion ⇢ I took so many body oils & lotions, LOL. I LOVE this one body oil.
+ shampoo / conditioner / body wash ⇢ I forgot to bring these but I borrowed a friend’s on our last day & it was sooo nice to have while on our trip—the shampoo / conditioner / body wash there wasn’t that great, so if you’re particular about your hair products and body wash, bring them. Plus it was nice to have a familiar scent from home while on our trip. Weird? I thought it was nice! : )

I also sprayed myself with this toning mist all day, every day. Read more about it here.

Also, quick tip—if you’re packing a blowdryer / straightener / curling iron, consider leaving them at home. I brought all three ( surprise, surprise ), and I used my straightener ONCE, and I didn’t even touch my blowdryer or curling iron. You won’t need them.

Okay, have you been to DR? Anything we should add to the list? Let me know below.

Also, where are you going this summer… Any fun trips? Would love to hear!

<3,
Bita
